Karma for Dummies

Karma is something that is really misunderstood. It is usually considered something that we earn – we earn good karma or we earn bad karma. Just how do we earn this karma? It seems like we earn it by either doing something good or doing something bad. However, if karma were a bucket the size of the earth, those explanations would be drops the size of mothballs.

Having done a number of past life regressions for people, I have found a whole new appreciation for and understanding of karma, sort of karma for dummies. Karma is really something that we have to learn – plain and simple. Here is an example of karma for myself, in this life. I have carried over into this life a feeling of extreme vulnerability in the physical world. My father was one of those larger than life characters, someone my husband would call a “Mans’ man”. I grew up feeling completely safe with him around. I did not take into considerations his character flaws, I just saw him as a MAN who was tough and strong and so he could keep the monsters away and insure my safety.

As I began dating, I was attracted to men who could protect me. The type of man that many woman are attracted to – MACHO. I was attracted to dragon slayers. I liked men who kept the masses at bay either through their financial power, or that physical energy that some men just emit. I met these men, and, as was my karma, they were equally attracted to me. We would even fall in love, or, more aptly put when referring to karma, we would fall into obsession. After countless disappointments, and sometimes a little violence, I found that the men I attracted to my life were not strong, at least not when it came to a strength that required more than lifting heavy rocks. In the end it always came back to my own strength. It was my karma to take responsibility for myself. Each time I handed over responsibility for my well-being to someone else, I paid a price, in love, in business, in anyway. Another karma that I had was with my self-worth and my lovability. Each time that I turned to someone else to show me that I was worthy, they challenged my worth. Karma is not necessarily about something that you have done to someone else, or to others in general – sometimes, very often, it is about something that you have to do for yourself.

My grandmother believed that she could not be loved for herself; she believed that she had to buy it, or place herself in a position that others needed her. She couldn’t give, although that is what she thought that she was doing – but there was a debt to pay for her giving and somehow in her mind this exchange was as close as she could come to being loved. My grandmother held on to every penny that she could. She did nothing, went nowhere and only used her money to hold on to the people that she loved. She believed that no one really loved her or could love her so she saved every penny. In her mind, no one would be there for her when she was old so she didn’t want to be in a position to have to depend on anyone, who she believed, would only reject her. After an unfortunate and unforeseen karmic turn of events she lost everything and had no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers. However, those people that she was so sure would not be there for her when she was in need, turned out with open hearts blessing her with all of the love that she never believed possible in her life. That too was karma. It was the karma of learning. It is all the karma of learning.

I have a friend that I regressed to a number of past lives. In each one she was some kind of slave. Someone who was not given any value, except for one life, in which she did find and relish her own value and her own accomplishments after a childhood of being devalued. However, old habits die hard and she brought that same unworthy mindset into this life and was treated as a lesser being by the same souls who had done it to her in her past lives. However in this life she is learning and beginning step by step to assert her own power. And with each experience in which she does this – she finds that those souls who once intimidated her begin to treat her with greater respect. This is karma also. Perhaps with this karmic reinforcement she will become one with her own power and her own worth and the lesson will not require more lives, the karma will have been released. Most times we return to learn our lessons with the same souls but wearing different costumes in a different set. I believe that we choose to experience these lessons with the same souls not because they owe us, or we them, but because that soul level contact awakens in us those feelings that we need to rise above. We are innately intimidated by those who have left us with scars of feeling less than in past lives. Just as we awaken in them a need to treat us in a way that they may not really understand themselves in this lifetime. It is not so much that they do it to us, and then we do it to them. It is better explained as they do it to us over and over again, lifetime after lifetime until we do not allow it anymore. I have often heard someone say to me, “I don’t understand it, I only act this way with you”. It is because this drama is between us. Generally, this drama, repeated over lifetimes on different stages teaches a lesson to all parties involved, and it is repeated until the lessons are learned.

Of course there are the karmas that involve race, religion, social status, and power. Someone may be very poor in one life, and feel enormous resentment towards those who have more. That person may come back again poor, but in the next life that soul has the opportunity to amass great wealth. The lesson is in how they handle that wealth, just as there is a lesson in how one handles poverty. All roads lead to love, compassion, empathy, understanding, acceptance and brotherhood. All of these things must be learned but not just for the benefit of others but equally for the benefit of ourselves. Karma is ultimately about learning the lessons of unconditional love which inevitably leads us to the knowledge that we are all One, and that the totality of that One of which we all are is God.

We write our karma as we go along. We write the plot for our next life in this one. Reincarnation is about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes. Karma is the path that we walk that mile on so that we may learn the true love of God, of other and of self and know that there is not differentiation between the three. That is the trinity that has existed since the beginning of time and before. Karma is not complicated. It contains no judgment, no punishment and no reward, except perhaps the reward of becoming the Love that we so desperately seek.

“Love Is Not Sought – It Is The Seeker

The Two Halves:

From Summons it is known that male and female were created together as their two bodies were connected at the backs. There is no energetic connection and no interrelation between them until they disconnect and turn face to face. Rabbi Shimon said that a union of male and female is called “Oneness” because a male without a female is considered as “half person”. A man and a woman are considered by the Kabbalah as one soul that its two halves were enrobed in two physical bodies. Only when the two halves are connected, they become “one” complete soul. And so it happens by the will of God, that from the moment of birth until the moment of union the two halves of the soul are departed and remote from each other. Sometimes the distance is large and the two halves are oceans and continents apart. At the moment of union, they become one essence.

We can keep a body functioning indefinitely through artificial means, but only a soul can give it life. The body kept animated through artificial means is not alive. It is an organic robot. Only the soul can live and only the soul can love. When we love, it is not something that we create, and it is not something that we discover – it is something that we remember. The person with whom we share love has awakened within our souls a memory of divine union, a perfect fit that can only be created spiritually. So the idea of making someone fall in love with us, is to me, unnatural.

Love is a cord that connects us to our spiritual source. If real, it offers us a glimpse of that which is beyond knowing. It opens our hearts not simply to the object of our love, but to love itself, the love and oneness of all. It is divine and it is eternal. Of that love, it is possible to say, that “it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved”. It is possible to say this because, if authentic, it is never lost. Just as it is never found, it is remembered; it is awakened. There is the story told in many forms of a person who wishes for the love of another and a genie, a fairy, or some acquired spell, brings to that person the lover that they wanted. And soon, in every tale, that person who longed for the love of the other becomes heartbroken overwhelmed by despair knowing that the love, however devoted and beautiful, is manipulated, manufactured, soulless.

There are books teaching the art of attracting a marriage partner. In the end, it is never satisfying believing that we made someone else love us. Love comes from the same source as life. It is the reunion of souls promised to each other before birth. Anything else is a cheap knockoff, an ultimately painful fit. In advertising artists create hamburgers that look mouthwatering. But to eat one, would make you sick, if it did not kill you because it is not made of food, it is made to look like food. This is the same as creating a persona to lure a partner into our lives. The persona is empty, and betrays both parties, poisons them or just leaves them malnourished.

We enter this dream that we call life, into a family. That family is chosen because all of the needs of all of the participating souls can be met through this union. The individual souls in this family may not be related to all or any of the other souls within it. They into this family because they will be bound together long enough and in the type of social environment that requires the working through of whatever issues they came in to deal with. Children choose their families because they will be trapped within this unit long enough to be imprinted with whatever is needed for their spiritual growth on this material plane. Our experience within this family is determined by whether we are meant to grow within it or from our ability to survive and escape it.

Sometimes a family comes together because there is karma to be balanced between souls within the unit. The souls have so little in common that no other situation would bind them in a way that would resolve it. This is a union built on the loving premise of growth, but not necessarily the loving bond that exists between soul mates.

The idea of family here, (as above so below) comes from the knowledge of our spiritual family. They never desert us. They are always somewhere in the vicinity of times of need. Sometimes our paths are too different to allow time for more than a chance meeting and the words that we need to hear in that moment. We call them Angels, and they are, but in the sense that is personal to us. Sometimes they gather as friends circle around us from a distance, and somehow, as we draw closer to a time of great trial, the circle draws nearer and nearer until at the moment that we are in our greatest need, they are around us to catch us if we fall, and protect us from incoming assaults. We call them friends, but they are brothers and sisters of our souls and have been since we, together, chose to venture into this valley of the shadow of death. This love is expressed with or without words. This love, the love of our soul family hears the cries of our hearts and not the protests of our egos. It is another form of love. It cannot be bought, it cannot be built, it can only be realized. It was before time, and will be after time, that is why time and circumstance have no effect on it.

We are sparks of the Divine, we are ideas. The Divine contains innumerable ideas, and innumerable manifestations of each one. A soul family consists of many expressions of one manifestation of one idea. So, at the core, and within all channels that flow from the core – we fit. The fit allows flow. We are words in a sentence, we each have a place as noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, etc… Together we flow. Together we have a meaning that cannot be misinterpreted and so, with so complete an understanding there is no judgment, no competition because we all have a place in the Divine sentence that we express. This is love.

I have a very close friend who came in to learn and grow through the suffering that can be contained in relationships. And her reward is the experience of love in the highest state attained through a relationship. Only for all of the years that I have known her, it has been a painful string of suffering. I tried to tell her to stop the relationships and find some joy in being alone. Of course, although that sounded like the logical thing to do, I was not wise enough at the time to realize that the track, the only track that her train could ride was the track of relationships. So, we agreed that I would use Astrology and any other gifts that she had to sensor all of the applicants for the role of her partner. That got tired very quickly as she, too long in between relationships inundated me with birth data for each woman that she met. And I realized that by the time I found the paper that I had written the information on, she would already be over the woman or the woman over her. So, I stopped putting effort into figuring out who was right or wrong, because history had proven that none of them were right. But I did notice one thing. Every woman that she wanted to be “the one”, all looked alike. She had a very definite type.

One day she asked me to look at a chart and before I gave it any thought, I actually did. Then she asked me to look at the woman’s picture which entailed much more work than I would have ever done under normal circumstances. So, as I was logging in here, and searching there, it occurred to me that somewhere inside I must know that this is the “one”. When I finally made my way to the woman’s picture, two thoughts ran through my mind simultaneously. One was that this woman was her type, and the other was, that this was the “one”. As hard as it was to make a commitment to something that my logical mind had long since disregarded as possible, I told her this was the one. And when they met, it was instantly clear to each of them that each was the one the other was dreaming of, praying for and seeking.

For me, I felt that I had learned something very new. I learned that all of the women who physically fit the mold of my friend’s type, were not her type at all. Imprinted in her psyche was the image of her true other half. She could make it out enough to fall head over heels with everyone who resembled her eternal lover. And the great Unnamable, Unknowable One, dressed each soul committed to teach her the lessons that she needed to discover her power, value, and greatness in bodies that would draw her to them like a moth to a flame.

We cannot attract a sunny day, nor control the direction and strength of an earthquake. Putting on a raincoat will not entice the rain to fall, nor will putting on a sundress lure the rain to stop. No amount of money, or the toys that money can buy, and no amount of doors money can open or connections that money can bring, can come close to helping us to survive what lies ahead of us, once we realize that all we have has come at the cost of love. If courage comes after we do the thing that we most fear, and not before, then it is understandable that full belief in our value and our worthiness of being loved, comes after we have risked allowing ourselves to be loved without seeking the answer to why. One, who will love us, will first see our souls, and love them fully. Then, as an afterthought, will notice that the material manifestation of who we are, is beautiful too, but the thing is, that this will be seen through the eyes of love so it will be seen as a reflection of the inner being that is loved. This is why, we grow old together, yet, our love does not see old. It sees the ageless, timeless, unchanging beauty that can only be love.

A Time To Reap

Ecclesiastes 3

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap that which is planted.
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to to mourn, and a time to dance.
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.
A time to get and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I have always had a difficult time with Ecclesiastes.  Verses like this,  3:16 “And still under the sun in the judgment place I saw wickedness, and in the seat of justice, iniquity”.  It seemed to me that the Teacher was saying that there is no justice.  Then I realized that this is not what that means.  in the following verse, 3:17 “And I said to myself, both the just and the wicked God will judge, since there is a time for every affair and on every work a judgment.”  I realized that the key is time.  There is a time to everything.  In the next verse the Teacher goes on to say, 3:18 “I said to myself: As for the children of men, it is God’s way of testing them and of showing that they are in themselves like beasts.” During the time of planting, we may plant anything we choose.  We may plant love, or hate.  We may plant generosity or selfishness.  We may plant the seeds of giving or the seeds of taking,  and here, under the Sun, it will seem unfair that criminals get away with the things that they do, and poor people, even honest people can be judged wrongly and punished unjustly.  There is no justice, under the Sun, during the time of planting.  Justice, however, comes to all, when it is time to reap what we have planted.  I have seen people who give so little of what they have, and still get more and more.  Of these people I have heard others say that they must have done something good in their past life for God to give them so much, in the way of material success, and power.  I have never see it this way.  Wealth, power, fame, these are all tests, these are seeds given to those who are to be tested in their ability to to fight the temptations of the world.  What will they plant with the wealth and power to plant anything?  Well, today, and for the rest of our lives, and into the lives of our children, we will be reaping what has been sown, and karma will be instant.

We have all heard about 2012 and the Mayan end times. Most of us realize that it is not the end of the world, but the end of life as we know it. So, what happens at the end? Before we can move on to something new, we have to tie up any loose ends. One circle has to close before another can be begun. We are completing a cycle. How many times have we all said, “What goes around comes around?” This is where we are.

On a grand scale, we are seeing this in the oil that is flowing into the ocean. Many of the prophesies tell us that this is a time of choice. Prophecy Rock tells us that this is the time where the road forks, The lower fork is followed by the one hearted people (those who think with their hearts, leads to survival and eventually paradise, the upper path represents the path followed by the two hearted people, those who do not use their hearts – who are connected only with the material world, leads to self destruction. The path to paradise is a spiritual path, it is a path of love, of compassion, of remembering that we have been given custodianship of the earth and all of the species living on this planet. The other path, the one we have been on, is the path of forgetting, forgetting that all rights include responsibilities, that we cannot take without giving back. The laws of karma are the laws of balance, of cause and effect. We do get what we give. Sometimes we get it later, and sometimes we get it sooner. We are in Iraq and in Afghanistan because of decisions made by George Bush Sr. upon first entering Iraq.

We relied on luck, cut corners, got away with it, profited by it and believed that we were entitled. We believed, some of us, that we were more entitled than anyone else. And we believed, that what we were doing, somehow, was backed by God. The other day I was thinking about luck, about how luck seems to be gone. Then I heard these words in my head, ‘Luck is the rope that the Universe gives us to hang ourselves’. Yes, we managed to corrupt everything and get away with it. Well, we were not lucky, and we were not entitled. You could say that we were in the right place at the right time. We have been living during an age that we might call the season of planting. To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven. It is not lucky when you get to go through a green light. This has been the time of the green light.

Now is the beginning of the season of reaping. It is the harvest, time to separate the chaff from the wheat. It is the fork in the road. I believe that there are many on earth today with one heart. I believe that there are many on earth today who will somehow, wake up to the truth and move into the world of oneness, compassion, love and responsibility. Those who awaken will feel the connection, the personal connection with the earth and with all that live on her. They are the seeds of the new planting. During the time of planting, Spirit gives us all of the rope that we ask for, to use as we choose, with total freedom. We can use it selfishly and amass a personal fortune while others starve, die from our greed as acceptable losses or collateral damage. Or we can choose to change, give back what we do not need, and find in our hearts what we really do need. But I believe that this last disaster, on the ocean floor, exemplifies all that is wrong with us. It is the result of our obsessive need to consume, our heartless disregard for life. It shows our irresponsibility, and our psychotic belief that we have the right to do anything that we have the power to do, and that freedom of will, somehow implies freedom from consequences.

We can trust the signs, or just be willing to err on the side of conscience, or ignore the signs, ignore the warnings, leave our hearts in cold storage and pay the price?. I have a feeling that we cannot survive the extinction of the dolphin. They are our last connections to the soul of the earth. We are paying now for all that we have done. Let us ponder the phrase, “the meek shall inherit the earth”.

“Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which has eyes to see but does not see, and ears to hear but does not hear; for they are a rebellious house.” Ezekiel 12:2

Message to the United Nations (Another Attempt)

Delivered and Submitted by Martin Gashweseoma, Caretaker of the Sovereign Hopi Nation to the General Assembly November 22, 1993

For The Great Spirit, Massau’u:

We come here from the Sovereign Hopi Nation to attend the Cry of the Earth Conference at the United Nations. We are proud that you have opened the door for us. My name is Martin Gashweseoma. As Hopi, we have come here to present our message which is about how we first came here from the previous world.

The Hopi way is to lead a good life. We still have the sacred stone tablets given to us by the Spider Woman. This is our title and deed to this world, and it was given to us with the life plan to follow, and with strong instructions and serious warnings. It was a good life. When the rains came and brought a lot of moisture, then our crops would yield enough for all living beings, including the ants, animals, birds, plants and human kind.

Before leaving the previous world, we came up here to ask permission from the Great Spirit, Massau’u, if we could live here with him because the world down below had become corrupted. He told the people, ‘It is up to you if you are willing to live with full respect for my way of life.’ They said, ‘Yes we are willing to live your way.’ So with his consent we came here, into this new world. This world is where the Great Spirit, Massau’u, first appeared to all first peoples and gave them their instructions and rules to follow. Then the Spider Woman laid before them ears of corn of different colors from which to take their sustenance and livelihood. The greediest people hurried to pick out the longest ears. But the Hopi, being the most humble, waited until last and chose the shortest ears of corn. Spider Woman then gave each group of people their own language and name and told them to migrate to every corner of this continent leaving their footprints, clan markings, and ruins to claim this land.

Before the migrating peoples arrived at the place where the Great Spirit, Massau’u, lives, he used to take walks nearby his home. Coming back home, bringing back violet flowers, he dropped them along the way. After discovering he had dropped the violet flowers, he went back to look for them, but the flowers had already been found by the Horny Toad Woman. The Great Spirit, Massau’u, asked if she would give it back but the Horny Toad Woman refused. Instead, she told him that in time there would be a crisis in this world, with which he would need help. At that time she would be there with her steel helmet to help. Meaning that someday if the Hopi got into trouble, a group of people with the steel helmet would help them.

The Great Spirit, Massau’u, let the first group who had found him live there and settle down. Each subsequent group of people who came to settle in Oraibi after their migrations were allowed to stay based on judgment of their character and how they had traveled when they were searching for the Great Spirit. Those who were boastful and arrogant were sent away to the east. Those of humble and sincere hearts were allowed to stay and keep the ceremonials in the proper manner to ensure rain for the crops and all living things. After this was settled, all the things that were to come were told to the first people in Oraibi by the first people that came from the underworld.

The people were told of another race of people who would come to this land and claim it as their own land. We were told not to accept anything these people would offer to us, but it will tempt us and be hard to resist. They would be intelligent and the inventors of many things. Now we realize that these people are the light-skinned people, the Bahanas. We were told of something that would come that would be pulled by animals, meaning wagons or carts. And ones that would run very fast, meaning automobiles. We were told of the land being cut up by long roads and fences, and of highways that would be built in the sky. And that women would adopt male clothing. And that the secret of women, with clothing, covered, would no longer be secret, but be revealed and exposed.

When this happens, all the world leaders people will be corrupted and will not know whom to look to for direction to correct this corruption. It will mean that we are all nearing the end. Then the wars will come about like powerful winds, and will spread from country to country and bring Purification or Destruction to this world. The more we turn away from the instructions of the Great Spirit, the more signs we see in the form of earthquakes, floods, drought, fires, tornadoes, as Nature makes ready her revenge. All of this will happen at one time along with the wars and corruption. We see this now as young children become angry, killing each other and their parents. They show no respect. We are all corrupt. If this Purification does not materialize, then the world will turn over 4 times and will leave only ants here to start a new life. Before people came to this world they were sick, just as today, we are sick from all this corruption. Now we are seeking a way to solve our present situation. This is the last world, we are not going anywhere from here. If we destroy this, the highest world, we will be given no other chances.

Let us consider this matter seriously so that this world is not destroyed, so that we can continue to live and save this land and life for the generations to come.

We Built A World For Our Egos, Now Let Us Build A Garden For Our Souls

Over the past seven or eight years, with increasing urgency, people have been asking me when things will go back to the way they were; when life will return to normal? We should not seek to once again walk that path that brought us here.  That is recovery.  We need to forge a new path, let us not recover, let us recycle the lessons that we learned from that past and create a New World, one that does not reach to scrape the sky but to touch the heart of Heaven.  Now is our chance to redefine what it means to be a human, and not an animal.

We are at the end of an age, imagine, lets say, one of those plastic bottles of Elmer’s glue that squeezes out. In the beginning, when it comes out it is smooth, tight, solid, dependable, it goes where it’s put, precisely and easily. But as the end draws near it may begin to slow down, requiring more force to get it out, but still, it comes. Once the end is reached, it comes out in jumps, starts, and sprays, it is almost impossible to direct, control, or depend on.

All of us alive today have been born at the end of this era, the Age of Pisces. The twentieth century was a critical century for mankind. The number 19 is a karmic number. It represents the needs of the self (1) versus the needs of humanity (9). This was the essence of the century, it highlighted separation from the whole, whether separation by race, religion, nationality, or economic status, we dealt with the loss of and the fight for human rights (9) throughout the world. We were forced to face our dark side. It first came to light with the Nazi’s and their attempt to annihilate the Jewish people. We have witnessed the Black people both in the United States, South Africa, and other counties being hung, killed, and treated as second-class citizens, we have seen many attempts at racial cleansing throughout this century and watched millions of people being slaughtered in tribal wars, and we have done nothing as Africa dies of AIDS. Nothing has been more open and in our faces than the issue of the rights of the few versus the rights of the whole.

We have been forced to see that there is a gap between the image that we held so proudly of ourselves as civilized beings and the reality of our darkness; we began to perceive our frailty, this has been our first unconscious inklings that perhaps, we could not trust ourselves or, for that matter, even life. It was the first, microscopic fissure in our façade. We began to speed up the pace of our lives: to get more life into a day, and more living into a life. Woman, after working in plants and doing the jobs that were previously held by men, began to feel that they could do more, have more, be more.

A generation of children was born into this atmosphere of dissatisfaction, and confusion. These children absorbed the emotions, existing all around them, into their souls; they observed the shattered image that man had once held with pride. Hidden in the closets were the skeletons of bigotry, hatred, and hypocrisy, which screamed out at them. This was a generation driven by an evolutionary intent to begin the process of exposing what was hidden by questioning the lies that had heretofore been accepted as natural. They came in to begin the dismantling of an age. They brought prejudice out into everyone’s faces to deal with; they insisted on civil rights, and woman’s rights. They demanded a world in which their parents had only pretended to live.

Aware that their parent’s generation had stood idly by, while Hitler massacred millions; made them commit to not just standing by and watching. They fought, peacefully, and violently, they lived hard and many died young: they were driven. Yet, it was also a generation whose strength was its numbers; that Vietnam thinned out badly, and whose weakness was its youth and its idealism. It made an enormous difference, but what it didn’t do, what it couldn’t do, was reach its goal; it could not create a beautiful world. It couldn’t do it because it ran up against a green wall of money and power. It believed that it knew the enemy, and the enemy was in front of it and had the power. So, it decided to regroup, go into the world to obtain the power from the enemy and change the world. Unfortunately, It did not know that idealism does not die, it transforms into cynicism. And when we get the power we become the enemy because the enemy does not have the power, the enemy is the power.

We, unknowingly, took the last step towards becoming the enemy…we turned our eyes to the power we needed to obtain our goals and through the power — lost sight of them. Power easily becomes Force. It is the ring in Lord of the Rings, and only those without desires can wear the ring, wield the power without being devoured by it. Our goals were full of God, but, when we turned to power and money, we became distanced from God. The light of God is a soft and eternally burning flame but the lights of the material world are like the lights of New York City at night. The man made lights are blinding, and make it harder to see the other lights, until they finally go out, by whatever means they go out — and they go out quickly; or they burn us out quickly.

The big lights are hungry, and greedy, they draw us in like moths to a flame, and so the closer we get, the more we want them, we become addicted until we overdose. The lights have become both stronger and stronger while the soft flame both harder and harder to find. Many of us joined the quest to put the ring where no one could find it. Few of us emerged untouched by the lure of the darkness that shines like neon lights. And by the time 1994 came along, we saw on television one million men women and children being brutally slaughtered in Rwanda, just as our parents had known about the Nazis and just as our parents turned a blind eye to the Nazis, we turned a blind eye to Rwanda…again, we did nothing. Since then, we have watched repeatedly as outbreaks of brutality and genocide have swept the world. As they might say in Star Wars, “The Dark Side is strong in humankind.”

Imagine being God. You have a garden that you created with love…into that garden you put the children who are the most precious to you. You provide them with everything they could possibly need. But they see something perhaps brighter and shinier than everything else and they turn away from what you offer them — and go to all that glitters. It is that old tree in the Garden all over again. We constantly create new kinds of shiny golden calves. Generation after generation of men and women are seduced, we bite the shiny apple, we worship the shiny statue while God looks on and sees His once beautiful garden all cut up, five of His children have ninety-five percent of the world locked up behind huge walls, while the other ninety-five of his children starve outside.

This is not the first time that He has watched us do this. The weak and oppressed unite to defeat the strong, then they in turn become the strong and oppress the weak; after the oppression becomes too much, again the weak unite and again the cycle starts over. The next step is that the stronger of those on the outside of the wall storm it and seize the resources…with the intention of sharing them among all, and then they decide to hoard rather than to share and then rebuild the walls once again; the persecuted becomes the persecutor they once defeated.

Part of our divine impulse is to create, it is inborn — if we cannot create we cannot survive. Yet, we are continuously being devoured by our creations because we keep falling in love with them. Or, we become so enamored with our own greatness that, reminiscent of Narcissus, we keep falling into our reflections and drowning. And in the image of Adam and Eve, we keep biting the apple. It is part of our nature and most of us sadly have been unable to rise above it.

The story of man’s birth, man’s temptation, man’s heroic effort to overcome, and defeat that temptation and his ultimate failure in doing so, leading to man’s final destruction by his own hand or because of his inflated belief in his own powers is his archetypal theme or perhaps it is a warning that has gone eternally unheeded, although it has been told in thousands of different ways from myths, to legends, to fairytales for thousands, maybe millions, of years. It has been repeated through the history of every mythological or historic civilization that has ever risen out of the hopes and dreams of the masses, and ultimately fallen tempted by the intoxication of power. Are we creating a new version of an old and repeated theme or are we writing a new one? Will we go down in history as the inhabitants of the lost Empire of America with legends told for generations of how we became too engrossed in our own power and destroyed ourselves? Or will we, through our actions, finally do something no other people have ever done; and bring the peace, that we have only dreamt of, to the world? Are we past the point of miracles?

The gift in this whole thing is that the story really never ends. It is a story that we are meant to relive, meant to recreate until we see, until we learn, that the ending is always the same. I believe that a large number of the souls here now, are the souls who have been in this school since Atlantis, some are here because they hadn’t learned the lesson at that time, others are here to help teach the lesson, and everyday new souls are entering who will be a part of the building process for the New Age. We are in that period of wandering in the desert, being tempted – tempted by power, tempted by money, and tempted by desire. At these times, like the Hebrews in the desert, Jesus in the wilderness and Buddha under the Bodhi tree we are tested, not to see if we deserve to enter the promised land, but to see if we are ready – if we have become the energy of love, unattached to the trappings of the world, or, if we still cling to the false gods of more money and more power and bigger and shinier things to own.

For that which guides them, the fire, will give them an illusion of truth, and will shine on them with a perishable beauty, and it will imprison them in a dark sweetness and captivate them with fragrant pleasure. And it will blind them with insatiable lust and burn their souls and become for them like a stake stuck in their heart which they can never dislodge. And like a bit in the mouth, it leads them according to its own desire. And it has fettered them with its chains and bound all their limbs with the bitterness of the bondage of lust for those visible things that will decay and change and swerve by impulse.” Jesus, ‘Book of Thomas the Contender’

Yet, it is all done with love, there is no judgment for not being ready. We just come back, and try again. We come back until we value only that which is worthy of value. This is the planet of choice, and we must choose whether we are rich or poor, healthy or ill, Black, White, Brown, Red, or Yellow. We all choose, love or hate, heal or harm, save or kill, or hold on or give away. It really is a matter of, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.” These bodies are symbols of our journey, everything is just a symbol created for our journey, so spiritually, it is better to add up how much we are still holding on to, than it is to measure how much we give. What we give to others, to the world, we give to God, what we hold onto, well…let’s just say, that it is what we keep from God. The more we give to God, the more joy and contentment we receive from God.
